Sort Them Ducks is an organising simulator developed and published by Mr.Duck.
Thousands of rubber ducks have been delivered, but they’re completely mixed up. Pirate ducks, wizard ducks, astronauts, knights, chefs, dinosaurs, and many more are scattered throughout the store. It’s your job to sort every duck into its proper category and bring order back to the shelves.
With a description like that, who could say no! Recently I found myself in a slump; nothing was engaging my brain, concentration skills? What are those! I won’t bore you with the details, but I needed distractions, so when a duck game appeared on the list, I took it. I found myself in chaos; a bull had possibly made its way from a china shop into a rubber duck store. The ducks were everywhere; my job is simple: place them back on the shelves where they belong. Food ducks need relocating to the food aisle; not-so-friendly neighbourhood spider ducks need relocating to the superhero isle; Al Capone’s wife to the mafia section (yes, really); and so on. Sorting them ducks was just what I needed; The easy premise with that addictive loop turned my reluctant 5 minutes into hours. I’m a regular mindfulness user; this game perfectly fits that for me. My brain was far too busy picking up the ducks and placing them on their correct shelves, being in the moment. (DBT completed it mate)
As you return ducks to their proper shelves, you are rewarded with cash and satisfaction. Cash can be used to upgrade abilities; satisfaction you’ll need for the day. For those who may find the task quite daunting, these abilities can help make it easier and quicker. Abilities include the ability to carry more ducks, auto-pick up ducks and more. I personally found the highlight shelves that accept the duck you’re holding useful, as some of the ducks bested me. (You win, bartender duck) Once you’ve maxed all your upgrades, you can further hone your skills by trying your luck with the duck slots.
The store design is simplistic, as is the background music; the ducks’ designs are where the game shines for me, with thousands of unique and often comical-looking ducks. That genuinely had me chuckling or cooing (dat sushi duck tho). There’s a rubber duck for everyone. If you still need convincing, it has Steam Achievements! SOLD
Verdict
When I first heard about these organisation games, they didn’t appeal to me; “we have cleaning at home” – Ann 2026. However, when my partner suggested I give this one a try, I was left schooled. Sort Them Ducks does exactly what it says on the tin; the gaming loop is addictive; it’s easy to pick up; there are no skills required and no pressure, just a love of ducks and organisation. I can not wait to see more in the future; may I suggest a collab with Placid Plastic Duck Simulator?
