Petunia’s Purgatory, developed by Dead Possum Games and published by Level Up Gaming, will be available on Steam in 2026.

Petunia’s Purgatory is a creepily-cute idle farming game that lives at the bottom of your screen. You’ll have to grow horrifying crops, sacrifice critters for blood, and summon helpers to run your cursed farm. However, this isn’t your only task; you’ll have to manage Petunia’s sanity. When her mind slips, the game will start invading your desktop!

Petunia Buttonwillow was stuck in a terrible job at an ad agency and wanted to get back to the countryside. After moving into an abandoned farm in the little town of Dunwich, she had come to the realisation of why other villagers didn’t want it. Unfortunately, she learns the hard way as something is watching, something is hungry…

Features:

  • Plant a huge variety of twisted and unsettling crops and deliver them to the Eldritch beast who lives in your barn.
  • Summon cute yet creepy helpers to assist on your farm. Upgrade them to improve their speed and efficiency.
  • Attract odd, mutated animals and slaughter them for blood, a vital resource for your ongoing harvest.
  • Craft your raw produce into prepared foods, a feast fit for an Elder God.

I’m always looking for games to play as distractions. Sometimes in life, things can be difficult, stress can appear from anywhere, I have learned that distractions are key. which is why Petunia’s Purgatory has been fantastic.

In Petunia’s Purgatory, you will tend a farm with a creepy atmosphere. On your farm, you’ll grow creepy crops to keep your sanity from draining. Each crop has different effects. You’ll have to choose which plant to grow, put it in the plot and let the spirits and Putina tend to them. Once you’ve got the number of crops the creepy barn requests, you’ll level up and unlock new buildings, sacrificial altars to collect blood, new plants, and more. The further you get, the more challenging the crops become to take care of. The number of rabbits I had to sacrifice to help my yield was crazy. Petunia will lose sanity depending on whether you plant enough crops or whether some special crops have a cost. When her sanity drops, strange events will happen around your desktop, which is interesting to observe. You can do all this on the desktop while on a teams/zoom call, writing emails and when you need a distraction.

Overall, I think Petunia’s Purgatory is worth your time when it is released, if you need a distraction or a fun game that requires little effort. Building your farm, upgrading it, tending to new plants, there’s always something to do and see. If you like what you see, don’t forget to wishlist it, as it really helps the developers.
