CTR Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled is available now on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch. The title was developed by Beenox and published by Activision.
CTR Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled is a remake of the original Crash Team Racing on PlayStation 1 it also adds many tracks from the PlayStation 2 title Crash Nitro Kart. Everything that was available in the PlayStation 1 version is now up to a more modern standard but with a ton of unlock-able content to really customize your character to your liking, from different karts, different character skins, paint jobs, stickers and little kart sets. I liked the additions that were added because there is such a huge amount of content to go back for and unlock which provided replay-ability and it’s always fun to show off what you’ve unlocked online. The tracks are back but with such a beautiful overhaul, such a lot of soul has gone into recreating the levels perfectly but making each one unique and fun. I found myself loving the amount of tracks that are included in this package, so many of them have really fun shortcuts to discover and also a lot to look at, but don’t stare to long as you’ll end up in 8th place.
I’ve seen a lot of comparisons online at the moment seeing which kart racer is best. It’s great seeing these comparisons, it makes me feel so nostalgic seeing the kart racing genre get brought up again and in the spotlight. The main comparisons at the moment are obviously between Mario Kart 8 and CTR Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled. Having played them both a lot, I can honestly say I am having a much better time with CTR. My reasoning is that it feels like a much bigger game, more to unlock, and more of a challenge, the online portion since the recent patch preforms so well and the overall feel I get is way more exciting when I manage to pull off the drifting mechanics which at first I did find a little daunting. CTR in the end feels like such a more rewarding experience and really being a Sony teen brought back a lot more memories than Mario Kart 8 ever did for me personally. Put the two games together though and I just feel that Beenox really did go all out on this and it doesn’t really cost as much as a full price game.
The graphics in CTR Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled are stunning, it preforms brilliantly and I couldn’t get over the amount of detail that have brought these tracks to life once again on the modern console. If the recreation visually wasn’t enough the sound design is fantastic as-well, old tracks remixed into a more modern sounding one but if that isn’t your jam you can switch it over to the old classic soundtrack and enjoy the sound of the 90’s.
CTR Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled is the perfect remake of the original, it’s fun, addictive, it’s so full of content, and overall you couldn’t honestly ask for better. While there was a lag issue on release online and loading screens can be a bit long, the lag was fixed fairly quickly and the online experience is very enjoyable.
