Movierooms – Cinema Management, developed and published by Mad Pumpkins, is available in early access from today. However, if you want to give it a try, there is a demo on the Steam Page.

Ever wanted to become the manager of your very own cinema? Well, now you can, but with a unique twist! This new venture includes time travel! As the manager, you will run different cinemas during various time periods throughout the 1900s. In each cinema you run, you’ll have to attract as many moviegoers as you possibly can, manage movie choices, screenings and look after your staff to ensure your cinema is run efficiently.

As a time-travelling manager, your main objective is to find the film directors and actors who are disappearing and reappearing in different time periods. Once you find them, they’ll request that you complete a range of objectives, allowing them to return home. As you clear objectives, you’ll unlock new levels, technology and more.

Review

Movierooms – Cinema Management lets you control your own cinema throughout different time periods, which is unique for a management simulator. Not only is it fun, but it can also be educational, learning about all the movie technology of the past. It reminded me of the classic Activision title, The Movies, because of the journey through time. I love time travel, and I feel that Mad Pumpkins pulled it off in an interesting way, but also made it challenging by giving you multiple objectives along the way, given to you by the directors you need to bring home. Bill and Ted would approve this most excellent adventure!

The management sections are meaningful, giving you full control of the cinema, from staff and wages to film selection and more. It felt like a deep experience that let you run wild with what you want the cinema to be. If the pressure of managing things is too much in the career mode, you can launch the sandbox mode that lets your creativity flow. You can also customise the cinema to your liking, which in sandbox is even better as you have no restrictions.

Overall, I had a good time in Movierooms – Cinema Management. It has time travel, movies and management. To me, this is a formula that works well for any movie fans or management sim lovers. Madpumpkin is working very hard on making sure it’s perfect for its early access release. If you want to give the game a go yourself, there is a generous demo to let you preview all of these features at your own leisure.
