Crimson Capes, developed and published by Poor Locke, is available now on Steam. You can find it HERE
The Crimson Capes are a guild working under the king in secret. Players discover there are sinister powers at play in the realm you call home. The objective is to hunt down witches, monsters and other supernatural beings. Players will face a conspiracy of wizards that will use anything and everything to stop you and the guild in your tracks. You must defeat them all to restore peace to the kingdom.
Crimson Capes is a 2D pixel-art swordplay game similar to the Souls-like genre. Players will have to study their enemies’ moves to make sure the timing is right with each strike, parry and dodge. Learning the combat, skills and movement is key to coming out on top.

Features:
- ONE FOR ALL – You can take control of any hero you want, at all times. Discover each unique fighting style and skill tree. Join in the asymmetrical multiplayer and hunt in online co-op with other Capes, or invade a hunt as a Deathblade.
- BLADE IN HAND – Fight using moves and guards based on realistic fighting techniques. Perform feints, thrusts, cuts and spinning moves to open up your enemies for a fatal hit.
- SWORD & SORCERY – Each hero has magical abilities to complement their fighting style. You can harness the winds and command thunder, raise flames or call upon darkness to engulf you.
- STEEL MEETS BONE – Take the heads of your opponents, bring them down to their knees for a finishing blow, or spill their insides out. Deliver the Law of the King and make an example out of your enemies.
- HIGH ADVENTURE – Raid old ruins and magic towers, climb down dark caverns and explore mystical forests. Magical artefacts are waiting to be discovered in every corner of the world, which you can explore at your own pace and in any order you like.

Crimson Capes immediately felt like the nostalgic games of the past, similar to Shinobi on the Sega Megadrive and weirdly a little Golden Axe vibe as well. The animations, graphics and gameplay are all reminiscent of the 2D action titles.
Poor Locke, the developer of Crimson Capes, created a fantastic adventure because of all the aspects of the game that pull it all together. You’ll level up and start learning unique skills, unlock new weapons and items to aid you in your journey, all while learning the buttery smooth combat system. It has unique features that bring it together into an experience that I thoroughly enjoyed. As a souls-like, you have to get the balancing right, with the characters not being too OP and the enemies not being infuriatingly annoying, it balances it out.
I got early access to the title, and there wasn’t a single bug; it all performed perfectly, no issues, no balancing problems, it all “just works” literally. I urge you to give Crimson Capes a go; it’s truly a fun title that is massively satisfying when you learn it and easily becomes one of those titles you’ll keep going back to for challenge runs.
