The Farmer Was Replaced, developed by Timon Herzog and published by Metaroot, is available on Steam right now, and you can find it HERE.

In The Farmer Was Replaced, you take control of a drone that will run your farm for you. As the title suggests, there are no farmers. Program and optimise your drone to take over your automated farm using Python-like coding language that teaches you along the way. Unlike most programming games, the game isn’t divided into distinct levels that you have to complete, but features a continuous progression.

Along the way, the game teaches you coding in a similar language to Python by guiding you step by step. These basic programming techniques can help you learn the fundamentals of real coding. While at first, for people who don’t code, the game might be quite challenging, but definitely not impossible. The developers do have a Discord with a very helpful community to get you started. For experienced coders, the game is fairly easy at first and becomes more challenging as you go. In the reviews, people say that it’s a very interesting way to get into coding, with experts praising how incredibly fun it is and how it tests your coding skills. A quote from the developer about the coding features below:

Although the programming language isn’t exactly Python, it’s similar enough that Python IntelliSense works well with it. All code is stored in .py files and can optionally be edited using external code editors like VS Code. When the “File Watcher” setting is enabled, the game automatically detects external changes.

The Farmer Was Replaced looks like a great way to get into coding, while it’s also a fun automation game that feels very rewarding as you progress. If you are interested in the game, it is available now on Steam HERE.
