Tropico 6 – Tropican Shores DLC developed by Limbic Entertainment and Realmforge Studios, also published by Kalypso Media is now available on PC, Xbox and PlayStation.
Before we get to the review of Tropican Shores it’s probably a good idea to cover what Tropico 6 is for those who may not know. Tropico 6 is a city builder with a unique twist that puts players in the shoes of El Presidente, a dictator. Players will have a lot of choices on how they run their city, whether you become the ultimate dictator that makes the poor tropicans suffer while you profit, or you can become a man of the people who prioritise the needs of the people over your own. Tropico 6 involves elections in which you can go the legit route of winning the people over with what they need most by getting unemployment sorted, homelessness down, delivering on the different demands by each faction involved and more. If being a man of the people isn’t your kind of thing, you can use fear, death and more to make sure you win every single election no matter what the people think of you. There are so many options available in making sure you win the game, whether you bribe, arrest, or kill them all will aid you in your evil dictator life. Tropico 6 offers a lot of replayability running your tropican paradise is in your hands, so do as you, please. Tropico 6 offers a lot of different mechanics from researching edicts to make your city run certain ways and allying with other superpowers from around the world in World War you can ally with the Axis or Allies, this will also aid you on your road to success. Tropico 6 boasts a ton of choices for you to make, it just depends on what kind of leader you want to be. If you want to read our full review of Tropico 6 you can do so HERE.

Back to our scheduled programming, here is the Tropican Shores DLC segment. El Presidente has discovered that the ocean makes great real estate, so players are tasked with creating the ultimate tropical paradise with the sea being the focus. Firstly players are introduced to the new mechanics through new objectives. The new missions will see you building new residential buildings on the sea, industry and more this helps you get to the winning objective that advances you in the age from colonial times all the way to modern times. You start on a small island, meaning you’ll have to learn all the new systems to ensure your city can sustain itself successfully, mostly using the new ocean real estate system. They did a pretty good job in guiding you through the new DLC with the new objectives, it was enjoyable and provided new ways to win the game which was interesting to see this one was yacht-based. Yacht-based objectives meant that you needed to build yachts to keep advancing the age it made the process quite enjoyable and different although it was a completely new challenge trying to raise money when you have limited landmass it made it more rewarding when you managed to pull it off. Did I get myself into a lot of debt at first? Of course I did I’m still learning! All of the new content offered in the DLC has its functions and uses, learning about all these uses along the way will help you in your dictator journey, and you’ll be offered lots of new lessons in this pack that opened up Tropico 6 more.

Tropico 6 has a bunch of DLC available now and I feel that Tropican Shores adds a decent amount to the overall content. Below is a list of features:
- Blue Gold: Tropico 6 – Tropican Shores adds 15 new buildings providing new options for infrastructure, residencies, entertainment, and public services as well as a new resource, Pearls.
- ‘Yachts for El Presidente’: Contains a new scenario that will help you navigate the luxurious new options to expand your nation on the water.
Bread and Circuses: Convince the Tropicans of your greatness with Submarine Tours, The Tropitanic, and relaxing Dolphin Therapy. - A Leaders’ Playground: Reap the benefits of your new power on land and sea with 4 brand new sandbox maps, ‘Pequeño Pero Mucho’, ‘Hipocampo’, ‘Las Manchas y Los Puntos’ and the map from the scenario ‘Yachts for El Presidente’.
- Dressed for Big Splash: Enhance your style with a Scuba Outfit and a shiny deco yacht for the Palace Garden.
- Tax Them All: 3 new edicts will help you reduce construction costs for offshore buildings, increase their efficiency, and open up brand-new options to tax your citizens.
A lot of new content is added, the new buildings ensure a new way to play with brand-new options and functions and I found them useful when building on a small island. The new edicts will help you on your journey to becoming the ultimate good/evil/neutral dictator and I enjoyed checking them out and seeing how it all affected my population and of course my bank and er cough Swiss Bank Account… Hey, don’t look at me like that! All the governments do it!

Verdict
Is Tropico 6 – Tropican Shores worth it? Yes, for £12.99 you can’t go wrong with the amount of content included in the pack, it really adds a fun new way to play and I enjoyed my time with it. I didn’t run into any issues or bugs, and graphically the game still looks fantastic especially when adding all of the new buildings to the ocean, nothing like a beautiful tropic island to claim as your own. I enjoyed myself so much that I bought all the rest of the Tropico 6 DLCs on the Steam Sale to expand my game even further and now Tropico 6 feels as big as ever and it lets me create my version of my ultimate paradise, even though no matter what I do, I seem to anger a faction or two along the way… What!? I don’t want 5 chapels on my island!
Ultimately if you enjoy city builders, Tropico is a really good series to get into especially due to the amount of choice you have on how to run the city, with so many options at your fingertips the game has a ton of replayability. Tropico 6 is a game that I will keep coming back to for a long time, I feel that it just has more than other city builders and I loved that.
